Zefarghand Porphyry copper prospect is actually a large alteration system (1.5km by 4.5km), located about 100km east of Isfahan and 30km southwest of Ardestand and 2 km north west of zafarghand village. This alteration system was identified using Aster imagery data. Ground controlling of this Aster anomaly shows an outcropping porphyry mineralization within the alteration zone, partly covered by alluvium. Four main types of alteration zones of potassic, sericitic, kaolinite, propylitic and silicification (Stockwork) were identified in this area. The main rocks are altered dacite porphyry and micro diorite which are surrounded by weak propylitic andesite porphyry. Some galena and sphalerite veining (up to 3cm) were found in5x30m silicified zone in the peripheral of the porphyry system in the fresh andesit.
Potassic alteration:
This alteration is represented in the micro diotite (150x100m) with 3-6% magnetite ±qtz and trace malachite as veinlet as well as pyrite boxwork. Most part of the area is covered by soil but partly by outcrops of this type alteration. Also there are some small disseminated biotite (maybe secondary biotite?) up to 1-2mm in the rock.
Phyllic and Argilic alterations:
This type of alteration is surrounded the pottasic zone. Weak to moderate Qtz +Goe (jar) ± alunite stockwork exist in the tuff and andesit/dacite porphyry. Most part of argillic alteration is apparently overpinted sericite and pottasic alteration. This zone contains 3-7% iron oxide (goe>jar>hem) after sulfide as vein and disseminated type of mineralization. Some qtz+iron+alunite oxide veins up to 2cm are visible in the system.
